That guest-bath tub nobody has taken a bath in for years is prime real estate. Converting it into a walk-in shower is one of the most popular projects we do, and it is right there in our name. Here is what the process actually looks like.
1. Design and selections
We start with a free in-home visit to measure the space and talk through layout, curbless versus low-threshold entry, tile, niche placement, bench, fixtures, and glass. Locking these in up front is what keeps the project on schedule once demo begins.
2. Demo
The old tub and surround come out, along with any failed backer board behind them. This is often where we find old water damage that was hiding behind a fiberglass surround, which is exactly why doing it right matters.
3. Framing and the shower pan
We frame the new opening and build a properly sloped pan so water actually runs to the drain. A flat or poorly sloped pan is the number-one cause of standing water and long-term problems.
4. Waterproofing
Before any tile goes on, the whole shower gets a continuous waterproofing membrane, sealed at every seam and corner. We cover why this matters in what makes a shower truly waterproof. Grout is not waterproof; the membrane behind it is.
5. Tile and glass
Wall and floor tile are hand-set with leveling clips for flat walls and a clean-draining floor, then fixtures and glass go in. A detailed walk-through wraps it up.
Timeline and cost
Most conversions run one to two weeks depending on tile complexity and whether plumbing moves. Cost depends on size, tile, and glass, so we quote it in person and in writing, with no open-ended pricing.
