Two of the most popular floors we install across Tampa Bay are luxury vinyl plank (LVP) and tile. Both are waterproof, both handle Florida humidity, and both can look fantastic. The right pick comes down to how a room is used, how the floor should feel underfoot, and your budget.
Water and humidity
This is usually a wash in Florida. Quality LVP has a 100% waterproof core, and porcelain tile is impervious once it is set and grouted. Either one will shrug off a mopped floor, a wet bathing suit, or a dog that came in from the rain. The difference shows up underneath: tile needs a flat, crack-isolated substrate, while LVP needs a smooth, level subfloor. We moisture-test and prep every subfloor regardless of which you choose.
Comfort and sound
LVP is warmer and softer underfoot, with a little give that is easier on the legs and quieter to walk on. Tile is harder and cooler, which many people actually like in Florida, but it can feel unforgiving in a kitchen where you stand for long stretches. If comfort is the priority, LVP usually wins.
Cost
Installed, LVP typically runs less than tile because the install is faster and needs less substrate work. Tile costs more in both material and labor, especially with large-format or natural stone, but it can last decades longer. Think of LVP as the value-and-comfort choice and tile as the longevity-and-resale choice.
Look and resale
Modern LVP mimics wood and stone convincingly, and buyers no longer see it as a downgrade. Tile, particularly large-format porcelain and natural stone, still reads as the premium option and tends to add the most at resale in higher-end homes.
How we help you choose
On every free in-home visit we bring physical samples of both, lay them down in your actual light, and talk through how each room gets used. Sometimes the answer is both, tile in the wet and high-traffic zones, LVP through the bedrooms. Either way you get the same in-house crew and the same 5-year workmanship warranty.
