How to Prepare Your Home for Floor Installation

Artist Flooring crew taking precise floor measurements before installation

New floors go in faster and cleaner when the space is ready. None of this is heavy lifting, our crew handles the hard parts, but a little prep on your end keeps the job on schedule.

Clear small and breakable items

Pack up lamps, electronics, decor, and anything on low shelves. We move the large furniture; you handle the fragile and the personal.

Plan for the big furniture

Let us know about pianos, gun safes, aquariums, or anything unusually heavy ahead of time so we can plan the right way to move and protect it.

Make a path

Clear a route from the driveway to the work area. Materials and tools come in and old flooring goes out, so an open path speeds everything up.

Think about pets and kids

Installation areas have tools, adhesives, and trip hazards. A quiet room away from the work, or a day out, is easier on everyone, especially pets.

Acclimation and climate

Some materials, like hardwood, need to acclimate in your home for several days before install. We will tell you in advance if that applies and coordinate delivery. Keeping the home at normal living temperature and humidity helps the floor settle correctly.

What we take care of

Subfloor prep, moisture testing, leveling, the install itself, debris haul-off, and white-glove cleanup are all on us. You come home to finished floors, not a mess.
